This digital album are the remastered original songs digitized directly from the 2-track master tapes I recorded for my 1984 vinyl LP release (my first album) which I released under my dead name: "Steven Grandell."

Those original 500 LPs have long since sold out.. I hand-screened the LP covers using water based ink with help from Edward Ford, who became my first bass player in my 1993-forward band "Venus de Mars and All The Pretty Horses"
The two of us, at the time worked at a T-Shirt screen-printing company called "T-Shirt Ink" .. Ed knew how to create and burn screens, and I designed the art from which those screens were created.

This album has become a kind of cult DIY synth-core album, making it's way (somehow) to Germany where the first track "Burn My Eyes" found a home with a number of German DJ's from that era.

If you google my dead name and the album title, you'll discover all this.

I've long meant to re-mix a new vinyl re-release of this album, from the original 4-track tapes (on which I recorded it all those years ago).. I do still have those 4-track tapes.. but something we all did back in the day, was to create what I called a magical 5th track during mixdown onto the master 2-track tapes (which would be sent to the vinyl record pressing plant,) by adding a live instrument playing along with the 4-track mixdown in real time (our only option in those analogue days)... so by re-mixing from the 4-track tapes, I would lose that magical 5th track addition.... However... I still think that re-mixing project is worth it... so at some point I do plan on accomplishing it.

In addition to these Animal Angst songs, I have 9 unreleased songs which I recorded during that 80's era of my work. IF I go through with a re-mix/re-mastered vinyl LP either from the 4-tracks or the 2-tracks (which is what this digital release is from), my plan is to include those 9 songs as bonus tracks.

NOTE:
One track: I Am Human, was recorded at Soundwaves studio (Mpls) and Mixed at Blackberry Way studios (Mpls) recorded by my then-band Straight Face, before we split up and I began working on this album as a solo artist.
-- The rest of the songs I wrote and recorded in our old 1983 St. Paul Band-house, and the Mpls rented house Lynette and I moved to in 1984 after our 1983 band-house lease expired.

Guest musicians are (my spouse) Lynette Reini-Grandell (violin) and Bill Bailey (live drums) who became my first drummer for my 1993-forward band "Venus de Mars and All The Pretty Horses"

These songs were written before I came out as trans (which I did in 1988).. Much of the lyrics are about all, about my internal struggles, and I grappled with being trans-but still deep in the closet. The lyrics are coded so as to not reveal too much. (which was the way so many of us did lyrics back in those oppressive dark days, all of us LGBTQ+ artists)

*** This digital release also includes a digital booklet with the original lyric insert, an original Xeroxed flyer for the initial vinyl 1984 release, as well as the hand-typed 1984 press release (which my spouse Lynette composed and typed for us)
